The Fasting

Ramadan — what the fast is, who is excused, what breaks it, and what it is for.

A month the Qur'an names — the only one it names. From dawn to sunset the fast withholds food, drink, and intimacy; the sources state its purpose in one word: taqwā. The station files the rules — who must fast, who is excused and how they make up — the nights of the month the texts single out, and voluntary fasting beyond it.
