Mjash`a ibn Mas`ud al-Sulami

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، سَمِعَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ مُجَاشِعٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَا وَأَخِي فَقُلْتُ بَايِعْنَا عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ مَضَتِ الْهِجْرَةُ لأَهْلِهَا ‏"‏‏.‏ فَقُلْتُ عَلاَمَ تُبَايِعُنَا قَالَ ‏"‏ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ وَالْجِهَادِ ‏"‏‏.‏

Narrated Mujashi:My brother and I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and I requested him to take the pledge of allegiance from us for migration. He said, "Migration has passed away with its people." I asked, "For what will you take the pledge of allegiance from us then?" He said, "I will take (the pledge) for Islam and Jihad

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى، أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، عَنْ مُجَاشِعِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ جَاءَ مُجَاشِعٌ بِأَخِيهِ مُجَالِدِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ هَذَا مُجَالِدٌ يُبَايِعُكَ عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ لاَ هِجْرَةَ بَعْدَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ، وَلَكِنْ أُبَايِعُهُ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ ‏"‏‏.‏

Narrated Abu `Uthman An-Nahdi:Mujashi (bin Mas`ud) took his brother Mujalid bin Mas`ud to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "This is Mujalid and he will give a pledge of allegiance to you for migration." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "There is no migration after the Conquest of Mecca, but I will take his pledge of allegiance for Islam

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُجَاشِعٌ، قَالَ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِأَخِي بَعْدَ الْفَتْحِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، جِئْتُكَ بِأَخِي لِتُبَايِعَهُ عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ ذَهَبَ أَهْلُ الْهِجْرَةِ بِمَا فِيهَا ‏"‏‏.‏ فَقُلْتُ عَلَى أَىِّ شَىْءٍ تُبَايِعُهُ قَالَ ‏"‏ أُبَايِعُهُ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ وَالإِيمَانِ وَالْجِهَادِ‏" فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا مَعْبَدٍ بَعْدُ وَكَانَ أَكْبَرَهُمَا فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ صَدَقَ مُجَاشِعٌ‏

Narrated Mujashi:I took my brother to the Prophet (ﷺ) after the Conquest (of Mecca) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have come to you with my brother so that you may take a pledge of allegiance from him for migration." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, The people of migration (i.e. those who migrated to Medina before the Conquest) enjoyed the privileges of migration (i.e. there is no need for migration anymore)." I said to the Prophet, "For what will you take his pledge of allegiance?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I will take his pledge of allegiance for Islam, Belief, and for Jihad (i.e. fighting in Allah's Cause)

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفُضَيْلُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، عَنْ مُجَاشِعِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، انْطَلَقْتُ بِأَبِي مَعْبَدٍ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لِيُبَايِعَهُ عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ، قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَضَتِ الْهِجْرَةُ لأَهْلِهَا، أُبَايِعُهُ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ وَالْجِهَادِ." فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا مَعْبَدٍ فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ صَدَقَ مُجَاشِعٌ‏.‏ وَقَالَ خَالِدٌ عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ عَنْ مُجَاشِعٍ أَنَّهُ جَاءَ بِأَخِيهِ مُجَالِدٍ‏.‏

Narrated Mujashi bin Masud:I took Abu Mabad to the Prophet (ﷺ) in order that he might give him the pledge of allegiance for migration. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Migration has gone to its people, but I take the pledge from him (i.e. Abu Mabad) for Islam and Jihad

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّاءَ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الأَحْوَلِ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، حَدَّثَنِي مُجَاشِعُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ السُّلَمِيُّ، قَالَ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أُبَايِعُهُ عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ الْهِجْرَةَ قَدْ مَضَتْ لأَهْلِهَا وَلَكِنْ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ وَالْجِهَادِ وَالْخَيْرِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

It has been reported on the authority of Mujashi' b. Mas'ud as-Sulami who said:I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) to offer him my pledge of migration. He said: The period of migration has expired (and those who wereto get the reward for this great act of devotion have got it). You may now give your pledge to serve the cause of Islam, to strive in the way of Allah and to follow the path of virtue

وَحَدَّثَنِي سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُجَاشِعُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ السُّلَمِيُّ، قَالَ جِئْتُ بِأَخِي أَبِي مَعْبَدٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بَعْدَ الْفَتْحِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بَايِعْهُ عَلَى الْهِجْرَةِ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ قَدْ مَضَتِ الْهِجْرَةُ بِأَهْلِهَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ فَبِأَىِّ شَىْءٍ تُبَايِعُهُ قَالَ ‏"‏ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ وَالْجِهَادِ وَالْخَيْرِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا مَعْبَدٍ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِقَوْلِ مُجَاشِعٍ فَقَالَ صَدَقَ ‏.‏

It has been reported on the authority of Mujashi' b. Mas'ud who said:I brought my brother Abu Ma'bad to the Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) after the conquest of Mecca and said: Messenger of Allah, allow him to swear his pledge of migration at your hand. He said: The period of migration is over with those who had to do it (and now nobody can get this meritorious distinctions) I said: For what actions will you allow him to bind himself in oath? He said: (He can do so) for serving the cause of Islam, for fighting in the way of Allah and for fighting in the cause of virtue. Abd Uthman said: I met Abd Ma'bad and told him what I had heard from Mujashi'. He said: He has told the truth

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُقَالُ لَهُ مُجَاشِعٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ فَعَزَّتِ الْغَنَمُ فَأَمَرَ مُنَادِيًا فَنَادَى أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ الْجَذَعَ يُوَفِّي مِمَّا يُوَفِّي مِنْهُ الثَّنِيُّ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَهُوَ مُجَاشِعُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ‏.‏

Narrated 'Asim b. Kulaib: On the authority of his father: We were with a man from the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) called Mujashi' who belonged to Banu Sulaim. There was a scarcity if goats (in those days). He commanded a man to announce (among the people); so he announced that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say: A lamb may be given as full payent for that for which has full-grown animal is payment. Abu Dawud said: His name is Mujashi' b. Mas'ud

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنْبَأَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يُقَالُ لَهُ مُجَاشِعٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ فَعَزَّتِ الْغَنَمُ فَأَمَرَ مُنَادِيًا فَنَادَى أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ كَانَ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ إِنَّ الْجَذَعَ يُوفِي مِمَّا تُوفِي مِنْهُ الثَّنِيَّةُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

It was narrated from ‘Asim bin Kulaib that his father said:“We were with a man from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) who was called Mujashi’, from Banu Sulaim, and sheep became scarce. He ordered a caller to call out that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say: ‘A Jadha’a suffices for whatever a two-year-old sheep suffices.’”
