Ishaq ibn Suwayd al-`Adawi

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏.‏ وَحَدَّثَنِي مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ شَهْرَانِ لاَ يَنْقُصَانِ شَهْرَا عِيدٍ رَمَضَانُ وَذُو الْحَجَّةِ ‏"‏‏.‏

Narrated Abu Bakra:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The two months of `Id i.e. Ramadan and Dhul-Hijja, do not decrease (in superiority)

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الْحَارِثِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ سُوَيْدٍ - أَنَّ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ، حَدَّثَ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ فِي رَهْطٍ مِنَّا وَفِينَا بُشَيْرُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ فَحَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ، يَوْمَئِذٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ الْحَيَاءُ خَيْرٌ كُلُّهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَوْ قَالَ ‏"‏ الْحَيَاءُ كُلُّهُ خَيْرٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ بُشَيْرُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ إِنَّا لَنَجِدُ فِي بَعْضِ الْكُتُبِ أَوِ الْحِكْمَةِ أَنَّ مِنْهُ سَكِينَةً وَوَقَارًا لِلَّهِ وَمِنْهُ ضَعْفٌ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَغَضِبَ عِمْرَانُ حَتَّى احْمَرَّتَا عَيْنَاهُ وَقَالَ أَلاَ أُرَانِي أُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَتُعَارِضُ فِيهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَأَعَادَ عِمْرَانُ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ فَأَعَادَ بُشَيْرٌ فَغَضِبَ عِمْرَانُ قَالَ فَمَا زِلْنَا نَقُولُ فِيهِ إِنَّهُ مِنَّا يَا أَبَا نُجَيْدٍ إِنَّهُ لاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ ‏.‏

It is narrated on the authority of Qatada. We were sitting with 'Imran b. Husain in a company and Bushair ibn Ka'b was also amongst us. 'Imran narrated to us that on a certain occasion the Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) said:Modesty is a virtue through and through, or said: Modesty is a goodness complete. Upon this Bushair ibn Ka'b said: Verily we find in certain books or books of (wisdom) that it is God-inspired peace of mind or sobriety for the sake of Allah and there is also a weakness in it. Imran was so much enraged that his eyes became red and he said: I am narrating to you the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and you are contradicting it. He (the narrator) said: Imran reported the hadith, He (the narrator) said: Bushair repeated, (the same thing). Imran was enraged. He (the narrator) said: We asserted: Verily Bushair is one amongst us. Abu Nujaid! There is nothing wrong, with him (Bushair)

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، وَخَالِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ، أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏"‏ شَهْرَا عِيدٍ لاَ يَنْقُصَانِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فِي حَدِيثِ خَالِدٍ ‏"‏ شَهْرَا عِيدٍ رَمَضَانُ وَذُو الْحِجَّةِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Abd ar-Rahman b. Abu Bakra reported on the authority of Abu Bakra that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had said:The months of 'Id are not incomplete. And in the hadith narrated by Khalid (the words are):" The months, of 'Id are Ramadan and Dhu'l-Hijja

وَحَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ، عَنْ مُعَاذَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْحَنْتَمِ وَالنَّقِيرِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ ‏.‏

A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbidding (the preparation of Nabidh) in varnished jar, green pitcher, gourd, and hollow stump

وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ، سُوَيْدٍ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ إِلاَّ أَنَّهُ جَعَلَ مَكَانَ الْمُزَفَّتِ الْمُقَيَّرِ ‏.‏

Ishaq b. Suwaid reported through the same chain of transmitters but for the difference that he substituted the word" gourd" for" waterskin" (meant for preserving wine)

أَخْبَرَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُوَيْدٍ، عَنْ مُعَاذَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، رضى الله عنها قَالَتْ نَهَى عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ، بِذَاتِهِ ‏.‏

It was narrated that 'Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said:"He forbade Ad-Dubba' (gourds) specifically

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ إِسْحَاقَ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ سُوَيْدٍ - يَقُولُ حَدَّثَتْنِي مُعَاذَةُ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَهَى عَنْ نَبِيذِ النَّقِيرِ وَالْمُقَيَّرِ وَالدُّبَّاءِ وَالْحَنْتَمِ ‏.‏ فِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ وَذَكَرَتْ هُنَيْدَةُ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ مُعَاذَةَ وَسَمَّتِ الْجِرَارَ ‏.‏ قُلْتُ لِهُنَيْدَةَ أَنْتِ سَمِعْتِيهَا سَمَّتِ الْجِرَارَ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ ‏.‏

It was narrated from Ishaq - he is Ibn Suwaid - that he said:"Mu'adhah narrated to me from 'Aishah, that the Messenger of Allah [SAW] forbade Nabidh made in An-Naqir, Al-Muqayyar, Ad-Dubba', and Al-Hantam." And in the narration of Ibn 'Ulayyah, Ishaq said: "And Hunaidah mentioned from 'Aishah similar to the narration of Mu'adhah, and she named earthenware containers. I said to Hunaidah: 'Did you hear her say earthenware containers?' She said: 'Yes

حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ وَثَمَّ بُشَيْرُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ فَحَدَّثَ عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ الْحَيَاءُ خَيْرٌ كُلُّهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ أَوْ قَالَ ‏"‏ الْحَيَاءُ كُلُّهُ خَيْرٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ بُشَيْرُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ إِنَّا نَجِدُ فِي بَعْضِ الْكُتُبِ أَنَّ مِنْهُ سَكِينَةً وَوَقَارًا وَمِنْهُ ضَعْفًا ‏.‏ فَأَعَادَ عِمْرَانُ الْحَدِيثَ وَأَعَادَ بُشَيْرٌ الْكَلاَمَ قَالَ فَغَضِبَ عِمْرَانُ حَتَّى احْمَرَّتْ عَيْنَاهُ وَقَالَ أَلاَ أَرَانِي أُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَتُحَدِّثُنِي عَنْ كُتُبِكَ ‏.‏ قَالَ قُلْنَا يَا أَبَا نُجَيْدٍ إِيهٍ إِيهٍ ‏.‏

Abu Qatadah said :We were sitting with `Imran b. Hussain and Bushair b. Ka`b was also there. `Imran b. Hussain reported the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: Modesty is good altogether, or he said: Modesty is altogether good. Bushair b. Ka`b said : We find in some books that there is a modesty which produces peace and dignified bearing, and there is a modesty which produces weakness. `Imran b. Hussain repeated the same words. So `Imran became angry so much so that his eyes became red, and he said : Don’t you see that I am transmitting a tradition from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and you are mentioning something from your books? He (Qatadah) said : We said : Abu Nujaid, it is sufficient

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عِيسَى النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ حُجَيْرٍ الْعَدَوِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ قَالَ ‏ "‏ وَتُغِيثُوا الْمَلْهُوفَ وَتَهْدُوا الضَّالَّ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: the same occasion: Help the oppressed (sorrowful) and guide those who have lost their way
