If God is merciful, why does His book warn of punishment?
Mercy and warning are not opposites — a warning is what mercy sounds like before a consequence, not after. The text describes His mercy as preceding His wrath and encompassing all things, and frames punishment as earned by persistent injustice, never as arbitrary.
